Original Title: Analysis of the Current Situation, Competitive Landscape, and Trends of the Global and Domestic Diamond Micro Powder Industry in 2021, the Industry is Developing Towards Intelligent Production
I. Overview of Diamond Micro Powder
Diamond micro powder refers to diamond particles with a particle size finer than 54 microns, with a chemical composition of carbon, and is the hardest material in nature. Diamond micro powder is a micron or sub-micron ultra-fine diamond powder formed by processing diamond single crystals through crushing, ball milling, and other methods. Diamonds have high strength, good wear resistance, a Mohs hardness of 10, and a microhardness of 10000 kg/mm2, which is 1000 times higher than quartz and 150 times higher than corundum. Therefore, diamond micro powder, as an ultra-hard abrasive, has unparalleled grinding capabilities compared to other products and is increasingly valued by industrially developed countries.
With the increasing maturity of the diamond tool manufacturing industry and the rapid growth of China's economy, the demand for diamond micro powder in China is also growing rapidly. In the past thirty years, with the continuous expansion of R&D investment and production scale in China's diamond micro powder industry, the core manufacturing process technologies such as crushing, shaping, and particle size classification of diamond micro powder have significantly improved, and China has entered the ranks of major producers of diamond micro powder.
The development of China's diamond micro powder industry can be roughly divided into three stages: the first stage is the introduction of diamond micro powder processing technology, creating a family workshop-style diamond micro powder production model; the second stage is breaking the traditional family workshop-style production model, transforming into automated production enterprises, breaking through traditional drum-type ball milling, crushing, shaping, and manual classification production methods, and replacing them with modern production equipment such as diamond air flow crushers, large diamond micro powder automatic sorting machines, and high-speed centrifuges, reducing labor costs, lowering production energy consumption, and improving production efficiency, which has promoted the rapid development of China's diamond micro powder industry; the third stage, with the application of computer technology and frequency conversion control technology, the diamond micro powder industry is developing towards intelligent production.
II. Overview of Policies Related to the Diamond Micro Powder Industry
In recent years, the state has introduced multiple policies to promote the development of the industry. The "Guidance Catalog of Key Products and Services for Strategic Emerging Industries (2016)" issued by the National Development and Reform Commission includes "synthetic diamonds" in the "Guidance Catalog of Key Products and Services for Strategic Emerging Industries," indicating that the synthetic diamond industry is encouraged for development and guided to direct social resources. The "Guidance Catalog for Industrial Structure Adjustment (2019 Edition)" issued by the National Development and Reform Commission clearly states that it is necessary to encourage the development of functional synthetic diamond material production equipment technology. The "14th Five-Year Plan for High-Quality Development of Manufacturing Industry in Henan Province" issued in 2021 clearly states the need to consolidate the advantages of synthetic diamonds, vigorously develop gem-grade diamonds, and build a global superhard material industry base. Against the backdrop of the state's active support for the development of the synthetic diamond industry, the synthetic diamond industry enjoys a favorable policy environment, and enterprises with strong independent R&D capabilities and large-scale production capabilities in the industry will benefit more from policy support.
III. Diamond Micro Powder Industry Chain
Diamond micro powder is the core basic material for downstream diamond tool manufacturing and hard and brittle material processing. The industry chain consists of upstream raw material suppliers, midstream manufacturers, and downstream application fields. The upstream raw materials mainly include synthetic diamond single crystals, while the downstream applications are widely used in fields such as diamond wire, glass panel cutting, and semiconductor polishing.
The supply of upstream raw material diamond single crystals is stable. Synthetic diamond single crystals are important raw materials for producing diamond micro powder, and China's production has been relatively stable in recent years. From 2018 to 2020, China's production of synthetic diamond single crystals remained stable at around 10 billion carats, and the production of synthetic diamond single crystals and micro powder remained stable at around 15 billion carats. With the development of synthesis technology, the proportion of high-quality new products is continuously increasing, and the industry is steadily progressing.

Expectations of the Semiconductor Industry for High-Quality Diamonds (Part 1)
Band gap: determined by the electronic states and atomic configurations of semiconductors, it reflects the energy required for the valence electrons of the atoms that make up this material to be excited from a bound state to a free state; the band gap is an important characteristic parameter of semiconductors. A band gap of zero indicates a metal, a large band gap (generally greater than 4.5 eV) indicates an insulator, and a medium band gap indicates a semiconductor.
Expectations of the Semiconductor Industry for High-Quality Diamonds (Part Two)
The conduction mechanism of semiconductor materials is achieved through two types of charge carriers: electrons and holes, which are classified as N-type and P-type. Diamond, as a group IV element, can be viewed as having a crystal structure formed by two face-centered cubic structures translated along the body diagonal by 1/4 of the lattice constant. Carbon atoms bond with four neighboring carbon atoms through covalent bonds using sp3 hybrid orbitals, forming a tetrahedral structure. By doping diamond with appropriate elements, its electrical properties can be altered, allowing it to be widely used as a semiconductor material in electrical devices.
